This past weekend, Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads. To celebrate, the Android Market has unleashed a great horror (or awesome deal) to the Android community.

Hideo Kojima is Working on Metal Gear Solid 5

Guess whose sneaking back with his cardboard box, Hideo Kojima! For those who don’t know who he is, he is the creator and director of a number of successful video games, including the Metal Gear series, Snatcher, and Policenauts, and also produced both the Zone of the Enders and Boktai series. Kojima is consistently named by fans and industry experts alike as being one of the most influential and innovative video game directors and writers in the industry.

Seems he opened up to the Playstation Official Magazine UK as he openly discusses his plans for Metal Gear Solid 5 and Project Ogre for the first time. He also gives his open opinions on Metal Gear Solid Rising – the first Metal Gear he’s neither written nor directed.

The issue hits UK stores on November 29th. If you’re an iPad or iPhone user with the Newsstand app, you can have it delivered direct to your device (with a discount on the cover price) on release day with their digital subscription.

PETA Bringing the Hate on Mario

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is setting its sights towards Nintendo and everybody’s favorite plumber, Mario, for wearing his Tanooki suit. Tanooki, or Tanuki, is the common name for the Japanese raccoon dog. For Mario, it’s a power-up that gives him the ability to slowly float across the game.

“Tanooki may be just a ‘suit’ in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur,” according the the PETA’s Mario Kills Tanooki website.

In kind, PETA has created a little game where the raccoon dogs can have their vengeance on Mario in a little flash game on their Mario Kills Tanooki site. The game is called “Super Tanooki Skin 2D.”

Though I’m sure PETA means well, I’m not quite sure if this is the right way to bring attention to a good cause especially after the Battlefield “rat” incident.

UPDATE: Nintendo responded, via Eurogamer:

“Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games. These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play. The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves.”

BlizzCon started today and already it’s off to a hot start! Diablo 3 has been “coming soon,” for what feels like ages and seems Blizzard is aware of this. So what do to help increase your bread and butter and for those waiting for Diablo? Blizzard announced today that their World of Warcraft (WoW) fans will be given digital version for free! It will be available to people who subscribe to World of Warcraft for 12 months.

Lately, subscription for WoW been suffering from a decrease due to various factors (went through all the content already, too hard or too easy and so on). However this may be a nice boost to their franchises, especially if you’re already paying for a subscription to WoW.

Diablo III is an upcoming dark fantasy/horror-themed action role-playing game in development by Blizzard, making it the third installment in the Diablo franchise. The game, which features elements of the hack and slash and dungeon crawl genres, was first announced on June 28, 2008, at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France.

UPDATE: Seems if you sign up, you also gain access to Tyrael’s Charger and beta access to the recently announced World of Warcraft’s expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

Dragon Age: Redemption Episode 2 is out starring Felicia Day. Still not quite sure what to make of the series, but its interesting to watch and it’s got elf ears. Can’t go wrong with elf ears! Of course, it reminds me of the elf ears they were selling at BlizzCon couple years ago.
